Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Ferryhill

The Olive Grove

Half Moon Ln, Spennymoor DL16 6HQ, UK – 01388 205689

Nothing bad to say about this place, nice friendly staff. Great food. If your from spenny and wanna go out for food go here, you won't be disappointed

My partner and I have eaten here 10 or so times, so I can give a fair review. For the area, the food is of a consistently good quality, made with fresh ingredients. If you're looking for excellent pub food, then I recommend it. We wouldn't have come here so many times if it wasn't worth visiting. The pâté and pickle starter is usually worth a go, as is the bacon and black pudding stack. For mains, cod and chips is always very good, as well as the vegetarian Wellington and the steak pudding. Beer also is always excellent and the pipes are clean. The only occasional let down is the service. The servers are very distracted by their phones. I recently had to ask for a menu despite being the only diner there! Come on guys. You need to sort that, because you have a lot going for you here!

Bayleaves

8 Parker Terrace, Ferryhill DL17 8JY, UK – 01740 651660

Really nice food but always have to wait a bit too long for takeaway. Service good and pleasant.

We had a delivery from here. It was amazing! Really yummy food and good delivery time. Definitely recommend eating here. :)

The Poachers

Bridge St, Metal Bridge, Durham DH6 5LQ, UK – 01740 654268

Nice place to have a meal. We didn't book in advance. Got straight in, seated and served straight away. Had Sunday dinner which was nice. There was lots on the plate and 2 big yorkshire puddings so it was very filling, no room for pudding. The only thing we found fault with was the mash potato had a bit of a funny taste, maybe mixed with some kind of oil or spread but that won't put us off going again.

For many years this pub has been well known for it"s good food and well kept ales. You need to be hungry as the portions are extra large. There is a light bite menu available up to 18.00hrs every day except Sunday with nearly everything at £5. As an example:- a ten inch bagget stuffed with mushrooms and Stilton sauce with a hefty portion of beautiful REAL chips and a good salad. Look out for one of the bar staff, you can't miss her, she is a lot like the headmistress from the film Matilder and is to the be avoided. Don't be put off if you have to wait for a table as it is pretty much always busy and you can't book in advance. You don't however get people jumping tables out of turn. Make sure to give your name and size of party at the bar and you will be told when a table is available for you. Finally there is a good outside area with the London to Edinburgh line running past at the bottom of the garden so there is no shortage of trains. Located at Metal Bridge, Durham
